Landscaping
Landscaping is the art of enriching and organizing the outdoor space with different plants and structures for different practical or maybe aesthetic purposes. The main goal of landscaping is to seek the way to create the balance between living and natural environments. And a result of this goal is to derive the infinite enjoyment from outdoor space. A landscape to a landscape designer is like a canvas to a painter or the insides of a home to an interior decorator. So is the landscape - the canvass on which designer crafts another masterpiece.
The two main things we can distinguish in landscaping are its elements and its principles. Elements are basic visual materials that are used to establish landscape design. Every thing you see in the garden may be considered one or combination of the landscaping elements. Landscaping is defined by combining any of the following elements: color, line, form, texture, and scale. Color influences the mood and character is mostly used to convey emotion of the overall landscape design or just its parts. Line directs the eye movement or flow thus creating the visual order. Form defines the shape and structure of an object, while texture represents surface quality of an object. And at last - scale refers to the size of an object in relation to all its surroundings.
Principles of landscaping refer to the standards or so called "prescriptions" for working with or arranging elements in order to produce the intended landscape design. Good landscaping techniques follow a combination of the principles below: unity, proportion, balance, focalization (also called emphasis), sequence (another word for transition), repetition, and rhythm. Unity uses the five elements in order to create consistency and harmony with the main idea of the landscaping process. Proportion refers to the size relationship between landscape design parts or between a part of the design and the design as a whole thing. Balance gives to the landscape design a unique sense of symmetry in visual attraction. Emphasis or focalization directs attention achieved by balance to the point of interest of the landscape design. Sequence or so called transition is used to create visual movement in landscaping. The definition of repetition principle in landscaping is quite simple - it refers to the repeated use of objects with identical elements, i.e. shape, form, texture, or color. And as for rhythm - it creates a feeling of motion and leads the observer's eye from one part of the design to another part.
Taking in considerations all the issues listed above I am absolutely sure that you will easily turn your yard or garden into a awesome spectacular showpiece, whether you're planning all-new landscaping or hoping to update a flower bed. And remember that well designed landscape will be able to cut your summer and winter energy costs dramatically, will protect your home from winter wind and summer sun, will reduce consumption of water, pesticides, and fuel for landscaping and lawn maintenance, and will help control noise and air pollution at your territory.
